About the Event
Barbara Mayer will discuss the book, "A Paralyzing Fear, the Triumph Over Polio in America" by Nina Gilden Seavey, Jane Smith, and Paul Wagner at the APPA meeting which will be held, Saturday, SEPTEMBER 10 from 1-3 pm. The program will be presented via zoom.
This book is a story about many stories of individuals who had the terrifying experience of obtaining the polio virus and how they recovered. Some individuals lived in an Iron Lung for many years and many individuals recovered from the virus with numerous disabilities. The book was the source of a documentary about the fear of polio, the distrust of the unknown and reluctance to acknowledge the sick among us. A large amount of the material originated from the March of Dimes and included information about President Delano Roosevelt who also contacted the virus and became a paraplegic.
Barbara is a member of APPA and had been active in group as a secretary and board member.
Please note the CHANGE OF TIME OF THE PRESENTATION due to Labor Day weekend.
